The Committee on Learning and Teaching promotes and supports learning, teaching, and the assessment of learning. The committee plays an advocate role for raising standards of learning and for supporting reflective teaching; the committee’s task is to help us all to learn about learning in all aspects of classroom and student life and to improve all programs associated with learning and teaching.

The Committee on Learning and Teaching serves the faculty in the following capacities:

  • Sponsoring campus discussion groups or workshops on Learning and Teaching;
  • Mentoring faculty (especially novice teachers) in how to build a quality curriculum;
  • Disseminating to faculty members insights from research on the scholarship of teaching and learning and especially regarding contributing factors to student “deep learning”;
  • Serving as consultants to departments or to faculty members to support teaching and enhance student learning;
  • Serving as consultants to departments or individuals in developing Analysis of Learning and Teaching Reports (ALT Reports) and collecting those reports;
  • Coordinating assessment of General LADR Objectives and overseeing aggregation of the data, as needed for across-the-curriculum analysis;
  • Providing support (and counsel) to those wanting to develop a research program based on the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL).

The CLT meets weekly during the academic year and is comprised of five appointed faculty representing each division, two students, one representative from Student Life, the Director of the Learning Center, and the Dean of Academic Affairs or designate ex-officio.
