Funding for Convocations/Special Events and Classroom Speakers

The Campus and Community Culture Committee is pleased to announce two programs available to you for the 2008-09 academic year to enhance the overall campus cultural and learning environment, as well as to contribute to your classes.

1. Convocations/Special Events - This funding is to encourage speakers, programs, exhibits, workshops, cultural events-anything that can contribute to the overall campus culture. In keeping with the spirit of the Academic Vision Plan, we encourage you to plan events by working together with other departments or academic programs and to involve student organizations. Preference will be given to events that cover a broad range of disciplines, that involve the support of several departments/academic programs, that involve student organizations, that will be partially funded through other sources, and that are planned carefully to avoid conflicts with major campus events. You will be asked to check the campus calendar before applying for funding. Events must be publicized campus wide. Please apply for Cultural Events Creditwith the Office of the Registrar if applicable.

2. Campus Speakers - Funding of up to $500 is available to bring outside speakers to help supplement teaching and to enhance the classroom experience of students. The exact amount funded is contingent upon the distance the speaker travels, number of services the speaker provides, and other relevant factors.

Requests for funding must be submitted electronically. During the 2008-09 year there will be four competitive funding cycles. All proposals received prior to one of the deadlines will be held until that date at which time the Committee will evaluate all proposals, determine which shall receive funding, and notify solicitors within one week. The dates are as follows: September 30, November 1, January 15 and March 15. Please keep these dates in mind in order to apply well in advance of when you plan to hold your event. No after-the-fact funding will be given.
